America's Red Rock Wilderness Act Gains Momentum

America's Red Rock Wilderness Act (ARWA) continues to gain supporters in Congress, after being reintroduced in April by its champions, Representative Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) and Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL). In addition to our champions, the bill now has 138 cosponsors in the House and a record 18 in the Senate. Are your Senators and Representative among them?

Among the new cosponsors of the landmark legislation are eleven freshmen representatives, including Representatives Gerald McNerney (CA-11), Ed Perlmutter (CO-07), Joe Courtney (CT-02),  Chris Murphy (CT-05), Hank Johnson (GA-04), Mazie Hirono (HI-02), JohnYarmuth (KY-03),  Keith Ellison (MN-05), John Hall (NY-19), Betty Sutton (OH-13), and Steve Cohen (TN-09). These new members deserve special thanks for making protection of Utah's spectacular wilderness a priority at the very beginning of their Congressional careers.

Another new cosponsor is incumbent Republican Ray LaHood (IL-18).

In the Senate, new cosponsors include returning incumbents Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Tom Harkin (D-IA), as well as freshman Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Ben Cardin (D-MD), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). They too deserve our thanks.

If your Congressional representatives are on this current list of cosponsors please be sure to thank them.

Both Representative Hinchey and Senator Durbin intend to request hearings on the bill, and you can help by asking your Representative and Senators to support these requests.

If your representatives and Senators are not yet cosponsors, please send them an email and let them know that now's the time to go on record in support of America's Redrock Wilderness.

MANY THANKS FOR HELPING US PROTECT AMERICA'S REDROCK WILDERNESS!
