Thanks to Utah wilderness activists like you all across this country, political momentum in support of America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act is building.  For example, we now have a record number of Senate cosponsors!

With the addition in July of new cosponsor Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR), the bill broke the record for the most Senate cosponsors since it was introduced in that chamber 12 years ago.  We now have 21 senators cosponsoring S. 799, America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act, in addition to the bill's original sponsor Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL).  Of note is the broad support this legislation enjoys from newly elected senators.  This list includes:

Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO)
Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR)
Sen. Ed Kaufman (D-DE)
Sen. Roland Burris (D-IL)
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)

If your senators (or representative) are already cosponsors, please thank them for supporting wilderness designation in Utah!

As national support for wilderness designation in Utah’s incomparable redrock country grows, we hope to see more action by Congress and the Obama administration to protect these magnificent public lands.  Opportunities include advancement of the Red Rock Bill in either the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee or the House Natural Resources Committee, or protection established administratively by the Department of Interior.

These exciting possiblities are only imaginable because of the continued action and support of people like you.  If your representative or senators are not on the current list of cosponsors, please ask them to cosponsor America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act today!

Thank you,

The staff at SUWA
